The World Of The Bull
The World Of The Bull is for anyone who has familiarized themselves with the basic concepts of bull running and bullfighting through our intro courses Bull Running 101 and Fiesta 101. We will explore the origins of bullfighting and its importance to Spanish culture, talk about why the Toro Bravo behaves the way it does during bullfights and bull runs, and review the art of bullfighting, including famous matadors and why they stand out from the others.
At the heart of this course is a mini video series with Alexander Fiske-Harrison, a biologist, conservationist, bull runner and bullfighter. Xander walks us through the history of bullfighting from ancient to contemporary times. Our journey begins in the horse stables, alluding to the relationship between knights jousting and bullfighting, and ends in Pamplona during the Fiesta of San Fermin, where Alexander finds himself amongst contemporary aficionados of the toro bravo.
